Hippies

Hippie/Hippy

Arose in the United States in 1960s and spread around the world mid 1960's.
'hip' and 'hep' is african american jive slang - 'sophisticated; currently fashionable; fully up-to-date'
After the two wars people started to make movement and and get together because they felt there was too much anger and disruption in the areas. Hippies are very anti war and just want to be chilled an relaxed, to do this they listen to psychedelic rock, embraced the sexual revolution, and take drugs such as cannabis, LSD and magic mushrooms.

They have their own lifestyle which consists of having long hair, casual dress, sometimes psychedelic colours. males grew beards, both wear sandals and beads. women usually wear granny dresses or loose fit clothing and both wore granny glasses. the message they give is to be free and open. They just want to embrace life and keep it calm.
